JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the administrative Human Resources functions, strategic Human Resources planning and collaborating with Management throughout the Company on day-to-day HR responsibilities including (but not limited to) hiring, training, retention, policy/legal compliance, compensation and investigations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and implement strategic Human Resource initiatives that ensure the regulatory compliance, operational continuity and efficient management of all Human Resources aspects of the business
  • Collaborate with all levels of management and staff to review, identify and recommend needed changes to Company Policies and Procedures. Communicate/implement all changes with staff and management as needed.
  • Report regularly on the progress of all objectives and communicate openly about the changing demands of the organization
  • Assist management with all Human Resources related topics and provide direction when needed
  • Assist management with supplier provided training programs ensuring compliance and setting/achieving targets and budgeting as required
  • Foster a culture of open communication and collaboration within and across teams
  • Seek opportunities to work with managers to support WestMat’s Core Values into day-to-day operations and lead by example in fostering a culture that reinforces the Core Values, Vision and Purpose
  • Standardize, implement and support management through compensation review processes
  • Expand utilization of current HR Systems and build a business case and recommendation for major expenses related to HR systems/activities
  • Review and negotiate legal agreements with various stakeholders and implement Policies and Procedures to ensure adherence on an on-going basis
  • Supervise the Payroll function and ensure appropriate Cross-Training is established for vacation coverage.
  • Supervise the Health and Safety Coordinator role and the related responsibilities
  • Regularly review the Benefits package for all staff and provide recommendations to stay competitive and make improvements for all stakeholders
  • Develop recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding procedures and maintain up-to-date employment agreements with staff
  • Provide counsel and advice to managers on performance issues up to and including employee terminations; address employee relations issues professionally and to minimize the risk to the company
  • Facilitate employee relations discussions, investigations and actions where necessary
  • Maintain strong knowledge of current employment law, compliance requirements and emerging trends/best practices and ensure Company adherence to the same
  • Act as a trusted advisor and coach to managers and employees
  • Identify developmental needs of all employees and to provide coaching, mentoring, and other support as required
  • Communicate HR related information to Employees and Managers
  • Seek to understand employee engagement drivers and barriers and work within the business to address and maximize an employee’s work experience
  • Adhere to all Company Policies, including Health & Safety, and ensure all employees are up to date on the same
  • Provide HR related analytical information and metrics to make informed decisions and improve HR processes
  • Collaborate with Management to identify and develop key talent within the company, including but not limited to succession planning and leadership development
  • Western Materials may from time to time make changes to its product and service offering which may require amendment to the job description above
